Summer Days (1884). Edward Killingworth Johnson (English, 1825-1896). Watercolour heightened with bodycolour.
Edward’s paintings achieved wide-spread recognition precisely because of his well-established reputation and connections with the press. His future success was due not only to his immense talent, but also to his ability to produce paintings which reflected the spirit of the age, but which could also be easily reproduced as illustrations in the flourishing world of journals and magazines which he knew well.
